More
Please know that the publishers of the HCSB have updated the text of the HCSB and created a new translation called the CSB (Christian Standard Bible). The older HCSB has thus been removed from being available as a downloadable Bible translation based on instructions from the publisher and replaced with the CSB. For the full text of this change from HCSB to CSB please read;
https://www.blueletterbible.org/help/hcsb_2017.cfm
If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us.

More
The words in brackets represent words in italics in the reference Cambridge edition. The Cambridge edition copyright is held by the Queen of England.
The Blue Letter Bible has not made alterations to this text in anyway. The original translators added the words in italics as an aid to understanding for the English reader.
If you should have any questions regarding the KJV text used in the app or on the main website please don't hesitate to contact the BLB ministry using the form below. A staff member will reply as soon as possible.

More
iOS Copy/define menu vs BLB app Copy verse option.
When you simply tap on a verse in the Bible text (not a tap and hold or a long press) then the BLB app "Verse Tap Menu" should appear. When the verse tap menu appears then tap on Copy passage option will appear along with the other verse tap features of the app.
With that said some iOS 9 users have reported that iOS "tap and hold" that should bring up the copy/define menu is not showing.
This should be addressed in revision (2.54) of the BLB app.
Always make sure you have updated to the most recent revision of the BLB app from iTunes
If you are experiencing issues please leave your feedback and a member of our staff will get back to as soon as possible.

More
If you are running the BLB app on an
older (less than iOS 7) iOS device and encountering issues ('domain is restricted') with BLB online content it may be because of the
SHA1 certificates which expired at the end of 2015.
This is because Apple didn't have the newer SHA256 Thawte CA installed on older versions (less than iOS 7) of iOS.
To resolve this please copy the following link and open it from a browser on your older iOS device to install the newer certificate.

More
As of revision 2.71, the bookmarks feature of the app along with the notes and highlights now permit you to order as you desire by using the "Edit" button in the upper right corner of the app.
The Bookmark folders were automatically reordered during the update in their display and may appear out of order from the previous revision.
However you can now select the "
Edit" button from the upper right corner and simply drag a bookmark folder to a position in the list that you'd like.
A solution is being developed (currently in development) to provide you with options to sort order the bookmarks folders either by folder title alphabetically or by your choice of order (using the "Edit" button).
If you could be patient until the next release t would be of beneficial to you. If you should have other questions please don't hesitate to contact the ministry.

More
The BLB as of 2.04 and newer provides inline footnote [fn] notation for various copyrighted online and locally installed Bible translations. To see the footnote -
tap on the [fn] notation in the verse passage.
What are they for?
These were added by the publishers to aid people in their studies. To comply with Bible publisher agreements the BLB has also now included them in the app as we do with the main website.
The various translations in which you will find the [fn] notation provide several kinds of textual footnotes: on all New Testament passages that clearly quote from the Old Testament; on cultural and historical information that may be obscure to modern readers; on variant readings in ancient manuscripts; on alternative renderings and on certain translations that depart from long-standing tradition.

More
If KJV Bible or other Bibles do not appear properly installed on your device and you are running iOS 5.0.1 or later its likely due to iOS cache cleaning kicking in where iOS attempts to reclaim space on your device by cleaning up certain directories.
Unfortunately as a result Bibles can be deleted from the device because of this and cause crashing.This was addressed. However if you are experiencing this issue then removing and re-installing the app will resolve this issue. It would be
prudent to first perform a backup of your BLB app data using the BLB app preference Backup/Restore options feature to protect your notes, preferences, highlights, bookmarks, etc...
Backing up to the iCloud would be the fastest and easiest way. You can also backup locally. In either case please see the user manua.
We are working to improve this situation on the next revision yet to be released.

More
Revision 2.20 will fail to perform a backup and likely crash the app
unless you have ENABLED the Audio Delivery settings option.
This was corrected in 2.21 - please update to the latest.
For those running 2.20 to correct for this (ie. so you can backup) please follow these steps;
* Tap on "Preferences"
* Tap on "Other Settings"
* See on Audio Delivery option
* Tap on "Audio Uses Cellular Data" and turn it ON
* Now you should be able to back up
* If you do NOT intend for the BLB app to use Audio on your Cellular data plan, be sure to turn this option "Uses Cellular Data" OFF.
FYI: The Backup step failed because the Audio Delivery setting was not initialized. We are sorry if this has caused any inconvenience with the app backup. Until the next revision is released
we simply ask for your prayers and patience.

More
These notations are meant to identify the original manuscript source of Bible passages. According to the NKJV preface:
Where significant variations occur in the New Testament Greek Manuscripts, textual notes are classified as follows:
NU-TextThese variations from the traditional text generally represent the Alexandrian or Egyptian type of text [the oldest, but sometimes questioned text]. They are found in the Critical Text published in the Twenty-sixth edition of the Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament (N) and in the United Bible Society's third edition (U), hence the acronym "NU-text."
M-TextThis symbol indicates points of variation in the Majority Text from the traditional text [a consensus of most Greek manuscripts]. It should be noted that M stands for whatever reading is printed in the published Greek New Testament According to the Majority Text, whether supported by overwhelming, strong, or only a divided majority textual tradition.

After a verse is tapped the "

More
We love to create and provide Bible content and technology for everyone, but sometimes technology must move on to support newer devices. With the release of 2.20 we will no longer be able to support Apple devices including the 1st generation iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and the 1st and 2nd generation iPod Touch. We would have liked to continue supporting older devices, but with the release of iPhone 5, Apple has updated their developer tool kit. With that we cannot support older Apple devices and operating systems while still building new features and releasing new updates.
This also means we will not be able to continue to support any device running iOS 3 up to iOS 4.2. Any device not on the above list running at least iOS 4.3 should upgrade to iOS 5 if possible or later to continue to receive app updates. At this time we will support iOS 4.3, iOS 5 & iOS 6 and any later updates to Apple's iOS.

The app was designed to allow for the audio Bible to be played even when the device is in sleep mode (ie. the screen goes blank). This was done to allow for battery saving mode while being able to enjoy the audio.
Follow these steps to get back to the BLB app running in the background and playing the audio Bible so you can turn it OFF;
* Unlock your device from sleep mode
* Double tap on the Apple device home button (round button on the bottom of your device)
* This brings up the apps running on your device that are either waiting to run again or are actively running in the background like the BLB app playing the audio
* Swipe left or right to locate the BLB app then tap on the app
* Now from the BLB app find the media player controls which should be showing in the upper portion of the app.
* Now simply tap the play/pause button on the left of the media player or on the right power button to disable the player.

Can I still install the BLB app on my older device -
YES!
BLB 2.43 will still be available in the iTunes App Store to install on your iOS device if its running iOS 4.3 to iOS 5.x. Apple's store knows which revision of the BLB app can install on your device automatically. The same is true for devices running < iOS 4.3, BLB 2.20 is available.

31. Why are some verses missing?
Due to differences in the manu...
More
Due to differences in the manuscripts from which Bibles across the centuries have been translated, there are a number of discrepancies between different groups of translations. Depending on which version one is accustomed to, it may appear as if other translations add or remove passages from Scripture. This is not the case in any intentional sense, as the translators base their translation decisions on the manuscript from which they translate.
For more information on these matters please see the
Bible Versions Differences page on the Blue Letter Bible site.

More
Some have observed the BLB notes feature scrolling when the view appears making it difficult to enter text.
What you are experiencing is not actually a bug with the notes view but by design to deal with an annoying bug introduced since iOS 7. Since iOS 7, the view did not scroll automatically to the cursor as you type text because the cursor would hide under the view.
The BLB app Notes View was being affected by this behavior and not properly scrolling to the cursor. To compensate for this the app would auto-scrolls the view to reposition it for you.
Revision 2.53 of the BLB App addresses this unfortunate issue.
33. Old Testament book name listing on iPhone 6

More
Some Old Testament book names appear to be missing when tapping on the top center book/chapter title on iPhone 6 devices. Why?
The BLB app when running on iPhone 6 in "Zoomed" mode wrongly interprets the device type when calculating the height of the view in portrait mode and ends up truncating the list of book names.
This has been addressed in the current development revision of the app in beta. The fix will be available in the next release.
If you turn off Zoomed mode you will find all of the OT books will show when in portrait mode. (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203073)

More
In revision 2.60 of the BLB app you may notice the WLC (Hebrew text) rendering change.
Why was this done?
The app updated Hebrew text (WLC) rendering removing cantillation marks (which also affects accents) to improve readability because of crowding of characters that can occur as its displayed in the app.

35. Paragraph symbol (¶) in the Bible text

More
The app provides for a visual paragraph symbol (¶) in the Bible text. These symbols are inserted where the translators believe it belongs. Many Bibles printed in columnar format don't leave room for the indentations that are commonly used in books and magazines. So the mark serves to show where that subject transition likely occurs. (Both it and chapter and verse numbers are later additions to the text and exist solely for reference's sake.)

More
Psalm 119 is what is called an acrostic poem, the stanzas of which begin with successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet; moreover, the verses of each stanza begin with the same letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
For example the following words;
ALEPH, BETH, GIMEL, DALETH, HE, VAU, ZAIN, CHETH, TETH, JOD, CAPH, LAMED, MEM, NUN, SAMECH, AIN, PE, TZADDI, KOPH, RESH, SCHIN, TAU
these are not extra included Psalm 119 but rather they are part of the Hebrew alphabet included in the Psalm.
Even the King James version calls attention to this with their Hebrew rubric letters prior to each verse. Other Bible translations also marks each segment of eight verses, of all the 22 letters [22 parts] of the Hebrew alphabet. The number eight [8] in Biblical numerics is new beginnings.

We currently have Strongs data for the KJV and NASB only. Hebrew Strongs data for the Old Testament is identical between these two versions, but the KJV and NASB follow slightly different Greek New Testament text traditions. Since the Textus Receptus is the basis for the KJV, NKJV, RVR, ASV, and RSV the KJV Strongs data is used in the table for these versions. Likewise, since the Nestle-Aland text is the basis for the NASB, NLT, NIV, ESV, DBY, HNV, and others, the NASB data is used in the table.

More
The text of the New International Version (NIV) was updated to the NIV 2011 text in accordance with the publishers requirement.
The NIV was translated and is copyrighted by Biblica (www.biblica.com), from who the BLB license its use. The BLB ministry was notified in Feb 2013 that ALL websites had to remove the NIV 1984 and replace the text with the NIV 2011, or be in violation of their license agreement. The NIV 1984 could no longer be displayed after 2/28/2013.
Accordingly, the BLB is required by law to conform to the requirements of the license agreement. Any websites that still have the NIV 1984 available are in violation.
While it would be nice to have the 1984 version as well as the 2011, that option is not available to the BLB.
The following website documents the changes between the 1984 and 2011 version.

More
There is a reason for the small caps in the NASB (New American Standard Bible). As a convention, in the NASB, whenever a NT passage is a quotation of an Old Testament passage, the applicable text is shown in small caps.
Ephesians 2:17 is a quotation from Isaiah 57:19. Another example would be Ephesians 4:8, which is a quotation from Psalm 68:18.
This is a nice study convention within the NASB that is not common among the other translations.
However, please note that sometimes the quotation is word for word, others it is not but is a clear reference to the O.T. text.

In its simplest form, an interlinear is simply a literal, word-for-word translation between the original Hebrew / Greek and the native language of the reader, in this case English. They are NOT 'full' translations per se, but are much more mechanical in nature and focused on the word as its own stand-alone unit. Nevertheless, scholars and serious readers tend to turn to the original Hebrew / Greek texts to appreciate the nuances and different meanings that Hebrew and Greek words can have. For every verse there is an Interlinear Hebrew / Greek (including the Septuagint) by using the Concordance/Interlinear (C button). The Interlinear is keyed to the Greek and Hebrew text using the Strong’s Concordance.

More
An Interlinear Bible, is a Bible with extra "in-line" information, like Strong's numbers, morphology, other languages, etc. They come in two types: Traditional and Reverse.
A
traditional interlinear Bible is based on the original Greek or Hebrew text, and shows the literal English translation on the line below. They follow the original language's word-order, and are generally most valuable to people familiar with the original language, or learning Greek and Hebrew. For examples, see the Nestle-Aland Interlinear or the Lexham Hebrew-English Interlinear.
A
reverse interlinear Bible follows the English word-order, and shows the original language on the line below. This allows a layman to access the original text in a way that might be more accessible to them without learning Greek and Hebrew. On the Blue Letter Bible site, these interlinears are included directly in their English counterparts, like the ESV, KJV, NASB.

More
The BLB app currently supports 'PARSING' so you can look up the tense, voice and mood of the words. This feature exists in the app on mobile devices like on the BLB website.
To find the PARSING and TENSES from the BLB mobile app follow these steps;
* Navigated to a Bible passage
* Tap on a verse
* Tap on the Concordance/Interlinear feature
* Tap on the TENSE option appear next to the words in the passage
The BLB app running on the mobile devices does provides the parsing from the Interlinear however it requires a network connection and is translation dependent in order to pull the data from the BLB servers.
If you are viewing the interlinear for some Bible where we leverage the NASB Strong's data, the BLB cannot show you parsing information. The reason for that is that the Lockman Foundation did not provide this data for the ministry, thus the Blue Letter Bible have none to share.
